An 8 year old boy has recently received £1.4 million in compensation for being left with a serious social and communication disorder after being starved of oxygen during his birth.
Whilst we have become used to hearing of large compensation payouts, the media seem to omit the fact that the purpose of such awards is to put the person back in the position they would have been in had the negligence not occurred.
Is £1.4 million a sufficient value to put on coping with the challenges that life will now bring for this young child?
