Widow of asbestos victim appeals for help from Becton gas works colleagues in bid for compensation
The widow of a man who died due to asbestos exposure is hoping that friends and former colleagues of her husband will come forward and help with her claim for compensation against her husband’s former employer, Becton Gas Works.
Patricia Jean Robbins, 72, lost her husband George in January 2007 when he died at the age of 77 after a gruelling battle with severe lung and chest problems
George Robbins worked at the Becton Gas Works in the 1950’s. He told his family that he used to stand next to work mates emptying sacks of asbestos. No protective clothing was available and he was heavily exposed from the work of others at Becton Gas Works.
Mrs. Robbins says "George was taken away from me too early and I feel lonely now that he has gone. I am told that if I can prove he was exposed to asbestos at work, I have a strong claim against the Gas Works. But I need evidence from George’s former work mates to help me with my claim."
Mrs. Robbins’ solicitor, Paul Meehan, partner at law firm Pattinson & Brewer adds "From the information available, it seems that George was very heavily exposed to asbestos dust. He was diagnosed as suffering from malignant mesothelioma a cancer caused only by asbestos. George was a healthy man before he was exposed to asbestos and his wife needs to claim compensation for the lost income she has suffered following his premature death. She needs any of her husband’s friends and colleagues who could bear witness to the working conditions at Becton Gas Works in the 1950’s to come forward quickly.
