Employees diagnosed with progressive forms of cancer are regarded as having a disability for the purposes of the Equality Act 2010. Employers therefore have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to help employees overcome disadvantages arising from their condition.
The Chartered Institute of Personnel Development, together with the Working with Cancer group and the cancer information charity Cancerbackup, has available guidance to assist employers in responding to the needs of employees affected by cancer or other critical illnesses.
