A charity manager from Southwark, London, has received £4,000 compensation following an injury sustained in an accident at work. Laura England was employed by Thames Reach. In September 2006, while at work, she opened a cupboard in the kitchen. The cupboard came away from the wall falling on to a cafetiere which spilled boiling coffee across her abdomen. Unite the Union secured the compensation for it’s member in association with specialist personal injury solicitors Pattinson & Brewer. Laura says : "I was in constant pain for 10 days. I needed care at home as I could not cope on my own, I was in too much pain. I had to wear tracksuit bottoms rolled down low onto my hips. It was a month before I could wear my jeans. I was extremely conscious of the scar which was a constant reminder of the accident. I had to protect the area from strong sun-light for almost 2 years. Fortunately the wound has now healed really well, but it was very painful at the time." Representing Laura, Deborah Smith from Pattinson & Brewer Solicitors adds : "This was a frightening incident and I am pleased that we were able to successfully conclude this claim for Laura."
