Carbon Monoxide poisoning is an invisible, smell-free and silent killer. Although incidents of carbon monoxide poisoning have fallen in the UK over the past 20 years tens of people are killed and hundreds admitted to hospital every year as a result of breathing in carbon monoxide.
Pattinson & Brewer has built a reputation fighting for the victims of carbon monoxide and their families where the victims have been exposed through poorly maintained gas appliances and fires in rented accommodation.

Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week – Starts with a Press Conference at the House of Commons on Tuesday 5th December 2006 at 10.00 a.m.
The aim of the day is to raise awareness of the dangers of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning and how to avoid being affected. Attendees include CO victims who have been poisoned by carbon monoxide and those who have lost friends and loved ones to this preventable and silent killer.
Dangerous carbon monoxide (CO) fumes can kill in minutes so be aware. Poisonous gas emissions in homes, holiday accommodation and workplaces are a national and nternational disgrace. A European Directive is essential.
CO-Gas Safety, Consumer Safety International, CO-Awareness and the Dominic Rodgers Trust are joining forces on 5th December. CO-Gas Safety will reveal its latest data on deaths and injuries.
Research was undertaken by Dr Ben Croxford of UCL for HSE and the early findings were revealed in HSE Press release E096:06 dated 02.10.06. The early findings were that:
- 23% of homes had one or more defective gas appliance
- 8% of homes were judged to be at risk of dangerous levels of CO
- 45% of homes had received no information on the dangers of CO
- A higher prevalence of problem appliances was found in the homes of vulnerable people (young, old, those in receipt of benefits)
Stop the Silent Killer this Christmas – buy a CO detector with an audible alarm to British or European standards
People should have their appliances regularly serviced by a qualified person, (with gas this means CORGI registered), chimneys and flues swept and checked, ensure adequate ventilation and have a CO alarm to BS/EN standards.

Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week 2007
starts Monday 15th October 2007.
This year we aim to travel during CO-Awareness Week and we will hold events in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
If you know anyone who may have:
- Been poisoned by carbon monoxide (CO)
- Lost a loved one to CO
- Been treated badly by their housing association, landlord or doctor
- Left suffering from the effects of chronic CO (long term low level exposure from CO)
- Been told they were suffering from CO and not actually known what CO was
- Been misdiagnosed
- Felt all alone, with no shoulder to cry on
Then try talking to others who have suffered and are still suffering the effects of Carbon Monoxide.
We would love to hear from you.
Please e-mail: LynnCoAwareness@aol.com or call 07715 899 296. (calls will be treated in the strictest confidence).
