A home carer from Hillingdon, Middlesex has received £4000.00 compensation following an accident at work. GMB, Britain’s General Union, has secured the compensation for Maureen Deighan with specialist personal injury solicitors, Pattinson & Brewer.
Maureen Deighan has worked for the London Borough of Hillingdon as a home carer for some 20 years. In June 2006, whilst attending a client at her home, she was caused to slip and fall in the client’s bathroom because of the presence of water, due to a blocked drain, sustaining injury to her hand, arm and back.
According to Ms Deighan’s solicitor, Caroline Phelan of Pattinson & Brewer, this accident could have been avoided:-
"A number of complaints had been made about the condition of the property. Ms Deighan’s employers were aware that the shower room was broken. Repair work was not completed until after this accident occurred".
Ms Deighan adds:-
"I was injured while attempting to bathe my client. My employers were due to carry out repair work but this had not taken place. I fell on my left hand while attempting to break my fall. I was taken to Hillingdon Hospital and was off work for almost 3 months."
